About Find Art Nola

Find Art Nola is an initiative of the Contemporary Visual Arts Association of New Orleans (CVAANO), in collaboration with New Orleans visual arts stakeholders. The mission of CVAANO is to provide an avenue for collaboration of contemporary art institutions in New Orleans to identify and advance its visibility as a center for contemporary art.

Find Art Nola supports and brands New Orleans’ contemporary visual artists and visual arts events by creating a user-generated directory of art venues, exhibitions and art events throughout this historic city. By providing local artists a forum to freely and easily communicate with each other and promote work, and by providing the local and national arts audiences with the most comprehensive and up-to-date way the access information about the local arts scene, Find Art Nola is helping brand New Orleans as the next nexus for contemporary visual art nationally and internationally.

CVAANO VISUAL ARTS ADVOCACY PLATFORM

1. Support the arts in a financially meaningful way.
Recommendation: Identify and obtain a dedicated funding source for the arts and creative economies. Make funding for the arts increase comparable to other cities. New Orleans grants less than $350,000 a year to arts organizations. Dedicate a minimum funding of $2,500,000 a year, comparable to other cities such as St Louis which invests $3,500,000, Baltimore which invests $1,200,000, and San Antonio which invests $6,000,000. Implement an arts mileage or dedicated funding stream to support community arts grants and visual arts programming.

2. Install visual arts leadership in City Hall to dramatically increase opportunities and engagement of the cultural community.
Recommendation: Reinstitute and fund the Mayor’s Office of Tourism, Arts & Entertainment or a similar office and create an advisory committee made up of Arts professionals, experts in their field, to be of assistance to political cabinet.

3. Encourage the development of future artists and culture bearers in our community.
Recommendation: Work with school entities and non-profits to re-institute arts education and to encourage career development with the arts in public schools.

4. Support the development of cultural venues and incubators in neighborhoods throughout the City of New Orleans.
Recommendation: Work within the city plan to explore new funding or creative legislative opportunities to support the development of cultural venues and incubators.

5. Increase use of the visual arts to promote New Orleans.
Recommendation: Partner with the tourism and hospitality industry to increase financial support for arts by hospitality industry, and to make the visual arts a stronger focus in the city’s brand development and advertising campaigns.
